Student Life

University life is about more than just your studies. It’s your chance to explore your interests within academia and beyond. When you are studying at Coventry you can join as many sports clubs and societies as you like. Societies reflect our students’ interests and include academic groups, cultural and faith groups and interests such as Air Soft and Pokemon. You can join as many societies as you like and if you think we’re missing something the Students’ Union can support you in setting up a new society.

University is also an excellent time to develop at any sports you are interested in and to pick up a few new ones too. Much like with societies, sports clubs are run by students and you may have the opportunity to run a club later in your degree, or even set one up. If you play to a high level, you may also have the opportunity to represent the University in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) leagues. These matches are usually scheduled on a Wednesday afternoon to ensure they don’t disrupt your studies.

The major sporting event of the year is the annual Varsity tournament when students from across the University come together to cheer on Coventry against our closest competitor, Warwick. Even if you’re not involved in playing, you can pick up tickets to some high-level sports you might not have previously seen.

There are also sports facilities catering to all activities; we have an excellent sports centre right in the middle of the campus. If you are a planning on living at home there is a discounted student membership option so that you don’t miss out. You can book one of the sports halls, visit the gym (subject to extra charges), or get involved in one of the many exercise classes on offer and we have outdoor pitches a short bus journey up the road at Westwood Heath.
