This series of studies is concerned with investigating the possibility that sensitivity to speech rhythm may be indicative of reading difficulties in both monolingual and bilingual populations.
This work is led by Dr Clare Wood and is undertaken in collaboration with Dr Lesly Wade-Woolley and her students in the Second Language Learning Laboratory at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada.
A recent area of research, in this project we are looking at the apparent connection between use of text abbreviations during mobile phone use and written language development in children.
This work is led by Dr Bev Plester.
We are involved in a series of studies examining the extent to which new technology can support both written language development in young children and foster collaborative ways of working in the classroom.
