Finance, Regulatory Reform and Development (FRRD)

Financial innovation and organisational capital are critical for business success. With the emergence of new and rapidly developing markets, it is vital that organisations make informed business decisions based on comprehensive economic information.

The Applied Research Group in Finance, Regulatory Reform and Development (FRRD) provides research and consultancy service in economic, financial and regulatory aspects of work associated with emerging markets and is actively involved in research with a number of UK and European organisations in these fields.

The ARG also provides short courses for financial advisors dealing with retail clients.

Key areas of activity

  • Corporate control in financial markets, understanding the economic factors leading to mergers and acquisitions in financial markets with implications for risk management strategies.
  • Characteristics of financial development in emerging markets, understanding the economic and legal foundations associated with the design and regulation of financial structures.
  • Analysis of investment behaviour and credit risk in financial markets, including a comparison of stock market performance across developed and emerging markets.
  • Pedagogical services on behavioural aspects of finance and financial derivatives.

Example of a current project

Banking Industry Performance: Working with the Technical University of Crete, this research investigates the impact of the role of regulation, supervision and corporate governance in the banking industry on banks’ performance, efficiency, and mergers and acquisitions.
