National Science Week 2008

National Science Week at Bablake

Following on from the success of 2007, the Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre at Coventry University again held a Science and Technology Day event at the  Bablake Junior School in Coventry this year. During  National Science and Engineering Week 2008, Cogent spent a day with Year Six pupils who took part in experiments on friction, light, temperature and sound. Pervasive Sensing technology was used to help them gather data which they then had to analyze critically.

The event's aim was two-fold: first, to introduce the youngsters to new wireless sensor network technology and second, to demonstrate howthis technology can be used to gain a better appreciation of core science concepts in the National Curriculum. Pupils were extremely excited and told us that they enjoyed having the opportunity to use cutting-edge measurement technology while learning more about their senses.
