National Science Week 2007

National Science and Engineering Week

During National Science and Engineering Week 2007, Cogent spent a day with Year Six pupils of Bablake Junior School, Coventry. The pupils took part in experiments on friction, light, temperature and sound, using Pervasive Sensing technology to help them gather data.

The event was aimed at not only introducing new technology in the area of wireless sensor networks and their growing part of our everyday lives, but also to demonstrate how technology can be used to gain a better appreciation of core science concepts in the National Curriculum. Pupils told us that they enjoyed learning about their senses and having the opportunity to use cutting-edge measurement technology.

Pupils told us that they enjoyed learning about their senses and having the opportunity to use cutting-edge measurement technology. Their comments:

  • "The one thing that will stick in my mind from today is all the devices that helped us get results for our experiments."
  • "I like all the tests but probably my favourite test was the friction test because we all got to take part and it was good fun trying to guess which surface would be the fastest."
  • "It was a good day and I have learned a lot of things which I can use in my science lessons."
