The mission of the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies (CPRS) is to contribute to the deeper understanding and promotion of processes of reconciliation and forgiveness by non-violent means at all levels throughout the world.
Through our activities as a centre of teaching, research and related activities we seek to empower those at the grass-roots, national and international levels who are striving to transform violent and destructive conflict situations by non-violent means.
Underpinning our approach is the basic premise that within the context of struggles to achieve peace and reconciliation at whatever level, the transformative power of non-violence has been under-estimated and under-researched.

New Project on Peace in the Olympics Movement
The international Olympics movement has a ‘peace’ mission as a core aspect of its inspiration. The Second ‘Fundamental Principle’ of the Olympic Charter states: ‘The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.’ The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies is leading a ‘peace and reconciliation’ initiative for 2012 and beyond, together with the regional Olympics partnership, Coventry Cathedral, the Herbert Art Gallery and others.
Dr Ian Brittain, author of The Paralympic Games Explained (Routledge 2009) and other works on the Olympics and Paralympics has been appointed to further our appreciation of the Olympics peace vision. Dr Brittain starts his work with us in January 2010.
