Transfer process information and guidance for applicants Research student application to transfer to Coventry University from another UKHEI.

Decision to transfer

In order to apply to transfer to Coventry University please follow the guidance below that is applicable to your current circumstances.

Applicants who wish to transfer with an academic who is their current 1st supervisor/Director of Studies.

If you are a current Research student at another HEI intending to apply to study at Coventry University please apply via the standard online application process PGR+ wherein you will be required to submit additional documentation as stated. Full guidance and the required online forms are contained within the online application system.

Research students wishing to transfer with their supervisor from another institution are required to provide the following;

  1. A completed official release document together with details of the duration of the research student's previous research study containing authorisation for Coventry University to seek relevant student record information from the previous institution as required (Transfer Document 1 Student Information Form)

  2. Copies of any current sponsorship/funding documents (it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that permission to transfer institutions has been granted from your current sponsor/funding body)

  3. Evidence from the previous institution of the ethical clearance obtained for the research to be conducted (Transfer Document 2)

  4. Copies of all progress reports to-date from previous institution

  5. Draft thesis chapters to-date.

You are exempted under the current guidelines for the need to provide the following document(s): Academic references.

 


 

Applicants who wish to transfer independently of their current 1st supervisor/Director of Studies

If you are a current Research student at another HEI intending to apply to study at Coventry University please apply via the standard online application process https://pgrplus.coventry.ac.uk/ wherein you will be required to submit additional documentation as listed. Full guidance and online forms are contained within the online application system.

Research students wishing to transfer independently of their previous supervisor are required to provide the following additional documentation:

  1. A completed official release document together with details of the duration of the research student's previous research study containing authorisation for Coventry University to seek relevant student record information from the previous institution as required

    (Transfer Document 1)

  2. Copies of any current sponsorship/funding documents. Copies of any current sponsorship/funding documents (it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that permission to transfer institutions has been granted from your current sponsor/funding body)

  3. Evidence from the previous institution of the ethical clearance obtained for the research to be conducted (this will be submitted for consideration to the Transferring in Interview Panel (TiIP)

  4. Academic References from your current institution

    (standard application document RD04)

  5. Copies of all progress reports to-date from previous institution

  6. Draft thesis chapters to date

You must provide references from your current institution - these should be from academics directly related to your PhD study.

Assessment of all applications to transfer

  • All Research applications received are logged and processed under the Coventry University Research Admissions policy and regulation (Academic Regulations 8.5)

  • Normal policy in respect of entry criteria applies in all cases

  • Normal application closing dates apply in all cases

  • If you have applied to transfer with your current academic supervisor/Director of Studies they will be advised of the receipt of your application

  • Normal assessment of each applicant will take place including an interview to determine suitability

  • Consideration will be taken of progression within the current course. Where applicable a Transferring-in Interview Panel (TiIP) will be held to determine any accreditation to be applied and amendment to stage of entry

  • The Faculty/Centre will indicate their decision once academic assessment has been completed, this will be notified to you via the Recruitment and Admissions team.

  • Entry and enrolment will be at the standard three commencement points of the academic year-September, January and April/May.
