I am most interested in modes (and habits) of communication, especially how sonic, linguistic, physical, and energetic cues function to promote embodied understanding. My work explores connection, which involves choreographic research carried out within professional dance companies, as well as multidisciplinary collaborations to model constructs of dynamic interaction through social network theory, immersive somatic practices, and cognitive neuroscience.
Ilya began his early training at the Boston Ballet, and continued to study music (piano and clarinet), as well as classical, contemporary, and Latin/Ballroom dance techniques. Alongside his arts practice, Ilya pursued undergraduate studies in Neuroscience and Rhetorical Theory (Northeastern University) and holds a Master’s degree in Human Development (Harvard University).
