RESEARCH SUBJECTS AND INTERESTS

My research interests include cyber security management, digital forensics, systems security and computer networks. My research lie in the area of cyber security management, mainly on but not limited to Automotive Cyber security. I am interested in investigating the difficulties of cyber security in automotive electronics, vehicle control systems, Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications and the protocols used in in-vehicle networks. I am interested in investigating the shortcomings of the CAN protocol (Controller Area Network) the defacto standard serial communication protocol used in in-vehicle networks in modern automotives. My research aims to explore both physical and remote cyber threats and attack vectors used in connected cars, autonomous automated vehicles and cooperative automated vehicles. It seeks to understand threats and effects, to discover how to embed security through all stages of software and hardware value chains and to develop strategies to segregate critical systems from non-critical systems. It seeks to prioritise risks and countermeasures of automotive cyber threats. My supervisory team consists of Dr Jason Ferdinand (Director of Studies) and Dr Alexeis Garcia-Perez.
