Event details

A free event for parents, carers and practitioners interested in learning more about how to assess and improve support for mental health, wellbeing and education outcomes in people with neurodevelopmental conditions.

Free parking and refreshments will also be provided.

Dr. Hayley Crawford,

Research Associate. Anxiety in children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders.

"I conduct research into anxiety in children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders that are associated with intellectual disability. In this talk, I will discuss research that supports the idea that different profiles of anxiety symptomatology occur in people with different neurodevelopmental disorders. I will also discuss behavioural markers that can help identify anxiety in individuals who are unable to self-report, and strategies that can be put in place to help alleviate anxiety."

Dr. Sarah Cassidy,

Research Fellow. Assessing depression and suicidality in autism.

"I am interested in understanding, assessing and supporting mental health and wellbeing in those with autism. In this talk I will share the latest research informing effective ways of assessing mental health problems and suicide risk in adults with autism, and how we can best support these individuals."

Ms. Penny Hannant,

Senior Research Assistant. The importance of sensiormotor skills in austism spectrum conditions and how to support them in the classroom.

"I am interested in the psychobiology behind autism and other developmental difficulties that impact on learning within the classroom. In this talk I will discuss some of the underlying features of autism that also cross over into other neurodiversities, such as dyspraxia, dyscalculia and dyslexia, and suggest possible ways to support children who have these difficulties."

Dr. Anna Joyce,

Research Associate. Sleep problems, their effects, and what to do about them.

"I am interested in sleep in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, and how sleep problems contribute to cognitive difficulties. In this talk I will describe various sleep problems experienced by children with neurodevelopmental disorders, the effects of sleep problems on children’s learning, attention and quality of life, and what can be done to help children sleep better."
