PhD Researcher in the Cyber Security Group of the Centre for Mobility and Transport
My research is into automotive cybersecurity, specifically looking at a framework that might aid in securely designing a vehicle, as well as to improve and strengthen the resilience of the systems within vehicles.
In terms of my research, this is a good stepping stone for my future career path, and learning about the processes of academia (publishing, peer reviewing and so forth) has been very useful. In terms of personal development, I have the opportunity to apply soft skills I’ve learnt in other areas such as team working, as well as learn new ones such as academic writing. International experience has also been a welcome benefit.
Coventry University offered me the chance to do a full studentship, but more importantly offered me the chance to work with industry whilst doing so. The collaboration between academia and industry has taught me a lot about my field, and was not something that was offered elsewhere. The field of automotive cybersecurity itself is extremely interesting and topical and because of its location, Coventry University was best placed to keep in touch with local businesses and stakeholders.
