Research Group: Materials, Mechanics and Measurement

Focus of our Research

This research group specialises in high accuracy measurement of residual stress, hardness, plasticity, of materials for advanced manufacturing, exploiting recent research findings that yield stress and strength of materials are inherently length-scale dependent. The group also has cross-cutting expertise in materials characterisation and mechanical property measurement that complements several groups in the MME research centre.

Research Themes:

  • Design rules for material performance enhancement through length-scale engineering
  • Higher resolution test methods for testing small volumes of material and for mapping surface properties
  • Analysis methods to derive macro property information from small scale (down to nano) mechanical tests
