Are you interested in conducting research in a sustainable built environment? Low Impact Buildings welcomes enquiries from talented and motivated individuals who wish to base their doctoral research within our areas of interest.
Who is this programme for?
We are seeking exceptional and motivated scholars who wish to engage with global, policy or industry related research that will demonstrate a measurable sustainable improvement in the performance of the built environment. You will be expected to engage in innovative research in one of our themes: building materials or low carbon technologies including their dynamic performance; new standards of building performance involving owners and occupiers; resilience and adaptation to climate change; or, pervasive data in sensoring and monitoring buildings including human computer interaction. It is our aim to improve the sustainability and performance of the built environment, so we will consider strong applicants in related themes. Candidates that can prove their excellence through competitive full or partial funding are encouraged.
- recognised Masters degree in a relevant discipline from a reputable institution,
- the potential to engage in innovative research and to complete the PhD degree within a three-year period of study,
- English language proficiency (IELTS overall minimum score of 7.0, with a minimum of 6.5 in each component)

FRP-strengthening of Curved Concrete Beams under Combined Loadings
This project aims at full understanding of the structural behaviour of FRP-strengthened curved RC beams under combined bending, shear and torsion loadings, by analytical derivations, lab experiments and advanced numerical simulations. Analysis and design guidelines for practical strengthening will also be proposed.
