The Guardian University Guide 2017 has cemented Coventry University as the top modern university in the UK, building on the success which saw it crowned ‘University of the Year’ at the end of 2015.

Coventry follows its achievement in 2015’s Times Higher Education Awards by maintaining its top 15 ranking (15th overall) in the latest Guardian university league table, which is published today.

The new ranking sees Coventry retain its position as the top-placed post-92 institution, an accomplishment that is mirrored most notably in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, which for the past three years has named Coventry the ‘Modern University of the Year’.

In today’s newly published guide, Coventry University is ranked top in the UK for the percentage of final-year students satisfied with feedback and assessment by lecturers, and is in the country’s top 10 for both the quality of teaching (joint 7th overall) and the ‘value-added’† score (8th overall).

The University also ranks second in the country for its courses in the hospitality, event management and tourism category, and is in the top 10 for courses in economics (5th), film production and photography (6th), geography and environmental studies (9th) and nursing and midwifery (9th). A further nine subject area rankings feature Coventry in the top 20 overall.

Vice-chancellor Professor John Latham said:

We’re delighted to be able to maintain the positive performance of recent years in the Guardian rankings, but as ever we’re mindful that league tables do not always represent a complete picture of the hard work that our teaching and professional staff are putting in and the value that they’re adding to our students’ experiences.

While we can be proud of how our increasingly distinguished position in UK higher education is being reflected in the rankings, it is nevertheless our achievements beyond our position in a league table which are defining Coventry as a university.”

†The ‘value-added’ score compares students’ individual degree results with their entry qualifications, to show how effective the teaching is.
