Awards success for university healthcare staff and students

Staff and students within the university’s faculty of health and life sciences have recently attracted praise and recognition for their work amongst their professional peers.
Amanda Royston, senior lecturer in leadership and management on the paramedic science course, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) 2015 awards.
The annual HSJ awards span 23 categories celebrating best practice, innovation and developments within the healthcare profession and this year they have attracted over 1,600 entrants from across the UK.
Amanda’s written entry, entitled Engaging Leaders and submitted on behalf of the university and the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with whom the university works closely with in delivering its paramedic science course, made it on to the shortlist for the Improving Outcomes through Learning and Development category.
Amanda is now preparing for a presentation in October to an expert panel of judges who will quiz her on the merits of her project. She will find out thereafter if she has won the award, which will be presented at a special ceremony in London in November.
Meanwhile, staff and students from the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health recently won an award for Best Oral Presentation at the fifth European Conference on Interprofessional Practice and Education, which took place in The Netherlands in August.
The award was presented for a paper delivered by Heather Fraser, senior lecturer in occupational therapy; Nicky Luntley, an occupational therapy graduate; and Alan Taylor, senior lecturer in leadership, management and service development.
