Coventry University will be hosting one of the aviation industry’s foremost airline route developers - and ex-head of revenue for Europe’s leading low-cost airline - at its engineering, environment and computing facility later today.

Having worked within the aviation industry for over 24 years, in roles such as Ryanair’s head of revenue management and route development, Bernard Berger has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience surrounding low-cost airlines and airlines generally.  As well as working shoulder-to-shoulder with Ryanair’s controversial chief executive – Michael O’Leary – for a number of years.

Currently working in a consultancy capacity, Bernard is offering his expertise to airlines operating across the world, as well as assisting airport operators and government bodies looking to expand their existing air services.

Bernard is the ideal aviation figure to share his wisdom with Coventry University’s aviation management and engineering and computing students, taking into consideration his previous positions within the industry, and his international experience.

Bernard will be sharing his industry expertise through an hour and a half presentation, with spaces available to anyone who would like to attend. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A with Bernard, later in the event.

Speaking of his visit to Coventry University, Bernard said:

I am looking forward to presenting at Coventry University. It is very important to fertilise the strong academic input from lecturers with real life experiences from individuals with many years´ work experience in aviation, so that students can relate their academic input to the real world. It also means students are able to question guest lecturers if what they have to say either compliments, or equally appears to contradict, what they have learned in their respective classes."

James Pearson, course director of BSc Aviation Management, said:

We’re extremely proud to have such an esteemed member of the aviation industry presenting to our students. With his enormous experience, particularly at Ryanair, he will provide a fantastic opportunity for our students to expand their learning beyond the classroom. Despite our Aviation staff having over 70 years’ industry experience between them, Aviation Management is about a living, breathing industry so guest lectures from people such as Bernard are something we really try to provide at Coventry.”

For those of you who like to attend Bernard will be presenting in the engineering, environment and computing building – Room EC1-29 – from 14:00 today, the 22nd January.
