Why choose postgraduate study?
An investment in your future
Postgraduate study can bring rewards that last a lifetime. The salaries for postgraduates are nearly £47K a year on average compared with around £38K for graduates and they are 35% more likely to earn over £100K than the average UK adult (Connecting Professionals Research, Guardian 2015). Over a 40-year working life, masters degree holders can expect to earn £200K more than those with a Bachelor’s degree (The Postgraduate Premium, Sutton Trust 2013).
Enhanced career prospects
A postgraduate course can help you upskill if you require specific qualifications or retrain if you wish to enter a different sector. While 31% of the UK working population (aged 26-60) have a degree, only 11% have a postgraduate qualification (What do graduates do? HECSU 2013). In a competitive workplace, it can give you the edge – 86% of UK postgraduates found employment within six months of their studies in 2013/14 compared to 74% of undergraduates and 91% were in professional or managerial jobs in contrast with 65% of graduates (Is an MA worth it? Association of Graduate Recruiters).
