To celebrate this year’s graduation ceremonies, commencing 23 November, there will be a Coventry Conversation on every day from Monday – Thursday.
John Mair, organiser of the Conversations, explains:
“I thought this year’s ceremonies would be a great opportunity to get some local stars into the University to talk about their achievements and to tell graduates and locals alike what a future in the media could hold for them.
“It’s great that we’ve got a whole week of events lined up to complement the graduations and I’m especially pleased that we’ve managed to secure talks from Evan Davis and David Richards as they are soon to be honorary graduates here.”
On Monday 23 at 2pm Evan Davis, presenter of Dragon’s Den and one of this year’s honorary graduates, will be talking on the subject of “into the dragon’s den and out of the recession” in the newly confirmed venue of the Goldstein Lecture Theatre, Alan Berry Building (opposite the Cathedral steps).
On Tuesday 24, Debbie Isitt, local film director, will be talking about her latest film, Nativity, at 5pm in the foyer of the Ellen Terry building where there will also be an exhibition of her work with canapés and drinks provided.
On Wednesday 25 at 1pm, Lynn Barlow, Series producer for the BBC, will be talking about the programme “When Romeo Met Juliette”, which was made in Coventry, in ETG34. Also, at 2pm in Graham Sutherland, GSG22, David Richards, CBE, Chairman of Prodrive LTD and Aston Martin LTD will be talking about “Driving Ambition” after receiving his honorary degree in that morning’s ceremony.
Thursday 26 is Graphics day in GS404 and from 10am – 2pm the likes of Philip Oliver, CEO Blitz Games, Dave Waters, Advertising Expert and Johnny Spencer, Designer, BBC Elections Graphics, will be around to provide talks on the Graphics industry.
Also on this day, at 6pm, in the Hillman Lecture Theatre, John Kettley will be talking about his days as a weather man for the BBC in his Conversation entitled “You don’t need a weather man to know which way the wind blows”.
