Coventry University is joining up with local secondary schools in an innovative new project which aims to give students the chance to get their ideas noticed by leading industry specialists, BT and Cisco.
The Innovation - University Enterprise Network project (I-UEN), supported by NCGE has been created specifically to provide students with high quality entrepreneurship education, and embed enterprise across the curriculum and also, to encourage communication skills and collaboration.
The local schools involved are Bablake, Coundon Court, Caludon Castle, Sidney Stringer and Stoke Park, all of whom have been asked to put forward teams of students to take part in a unique launch event set up by Cisco. The day promises to be an exhilarating and stimulating opportunity for students to get their project ideas noticed as it will be held at Cisco Headquarters in Bedfont Lakes on 27 November.
The students from the five schools involved will be spending the day generating ideas for new inventions for interactive products or methods that will aid learning at their school and then, over the next year, these ideas will be turned into reality with help from the University and businesses involved.
Louise Marjoram, Senior Project Manager at Coventry University, said:
“I am really excited about the possibilities this presents to our local schools and also the young people it serves, as are the participating schools. This could be really leading edge and put us high up in the national spot light for ground breaking partnerships and working within the enterprise agenda, something the University are certainly very proud to be involved in.”
The five schools will share their learning experiences interactively throughout the programme through the use of collaborative tools and technologies supported by Coventry University.
Schools in the region will be invited to share the best practice at the end of the programme at a prize giving and awards ceremony in June 2010.
