Tutorial Index

  • Online tutorials for module 110CT/H09CS/113CS are at www.coventry.ac.uk/ec/~lisa/bluej/tutorials/index.htm

  • BlueJ's tutorial (rather more advanced) http://www.bluej.org/tutorial/tutorial.pdf
(To access .pdf files you need Adobe Reader on your machine.)

  • What is BlueJ? http://www.bluej.org/about/what.html

  • To install BlueJ at home you must first have installed Java. You need version JDK (or J2SE or SDK) 1.5.x to run BlueJ 2.1.2. (This is sometimes referred to as Java 5.) The Java JRE is a very cutdown version of Java: a Java Runtime Environment, and won't run BlueJ alone. Use the 'Running BlueJ at Home' page http://www.coventry.ac.uk/ec/~lisa/bluej/BlueJHome.doc for help with this.

At the Uni we are currently using JDK version 1.5.0. You can either:

    • download it from the 'Sun' site (see 'BlueJ at Home' page above). Java is large.
    • or use the version on the CD with the course textbook (Barnes and Kolling)

    To get BlueJ either:

    • download it from the BlueJ site http://www.bluej.org. Use version 2.1.2
    • or use the version on the CD with the course textbook (Barnes and Kolling)

  • BlueJ can be downloaded and run from a USB drive. See BlueJ's instructions

  •  To use a package (say aLibrary or MisIO) or provided standard class (say EasyIn) with BlueJ at home, you need to configure your BlueJ. This is easy. Follow these instructions or, for aLibrary, there is a 'readme.rtf' file on Riley's CD.

    aLibrary error:
Note there is an error with the aLibrary files distributed with Riley (BlueJ version only). See the Java resources page

  • Online support to help with errors (written for module H09CS/113CS) is at www.coventry.ac.uk/ec/~lisa/bluej/errors.htm

  • Lots of further information about BlueJ, see the BlueJ web site http://www.bluej.org
