The Descriptive Statistics workbook looks at summary statistics such as the mean and median, the standard deviation and interquartile range, plus two ways of representing data: histograms (which are frequently misunderstood) and boxplots.

Measures of location (averages)

The example shows a frequency distribution for which the mean and median have been calculated. Students can change the frequencies to see how the shape of the distribution and the relative positions of the mean and median alter.
