Other countries' National Statistics sites

The US Census Bureau and in particular the US Census 2000 has much interesting data. I suggest looking at the Historical Income Tables which includes data on income inequality.

FedStats is another American data source, and will give you downloadable data from Frequently Requested Tables from the Statistical Abstract of the United States but they are not always up to date.

The Small Business Development Center National Information Clearinghouse (SBDCNET) in the States is a real mouthful but has a very helpful and informative list of US sources of demographic info, which is not as boring as you might think.

Statistics Canada is good and has an Education section
The Central Statistics Office, Ireland, has a Students' Corner

Statistics New Zealand has a Schools Corner, and 'nearby' is the Australian Bureau of Statistics which I do not find an easy site.

The following links all take you to the English pages of the various sites: For the French there is the Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques, in Germany there is Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland, and in Spain Instituto Nacional de Estadistica.

Finally in this section the statistical site of WHO, the World Health Organisation, has a wide variety of data available, some downloadable as Excel spreadsheets, e.g. the tables from the World Health Statistics 2010
