Census 2011The next Census will be held on 27 March 2011. The Census 2011 website is worth a visit, but is not to be confused with the more boring behind the scenes ONS Census page. At ONS a summary of information from the 2001 Census, by local authority area is under Profiles. The history pages provide much of interest including a look back from 2001 of 200 years plus old census returns featuring famous people from Queen Victoria to the Duke of Wellington. The census data from 1841 to 1901 is now available online. You can search for a name free of charge and then pay for further details. Living at the Time of the 1901 Census is a web exhibition that includes contemporary film clips. Data from previous censuses is available for use in teaching. The Collection of Historical and Contemporary Census Data project website, CHCC for short, has teaching and learning materials for piloting. Follow the links from the home page. Don't forget the really useful teaching data and materials provided by CensusAtSchool which is teaming up with ONS to run a special CenusATSchool project.
