This module aims to teach you about regression and correlation.

It covers:

Introduction - scatterplots, lines, slopes and intercepts

Examples - applications of regression analysis

Lines - finding the line of best fit

Goodness-of-fit - measuring how well the best line fits the data

Assumptions - what they are and how to check them

Prediction - interpolation and extrapolation, reliability

Further work - multiple regression and beyond!

You may work through the various parts of this unit in any order, but the recommended route is indicated at each stage by the red option button.  You are advised to start by clicking on the Introduction button at the top of the page.

On any page you may use the button to visit other relevant web resources or the button to return to this page.

The interactive elements of this module use Microsoft Excel 97 and will not run unless this software (or a later version) is installed on your computer (or network).  Excel uses settings taken from the first worksheet opened in the session, so please ensure that you do not have Excel already running when you start to use any of our spreadsheets.
