Colin Reeves' Home Page

Welcome to my home page. You will find some information about myself, a list of my publications, some of which are available online, a selection of other useful links, mostly those related to my own research area.
Finally, there is a section on some conferences with which I am involved, or in which I have some interest.
Later, I hope to add some links to course lecture notes.

About myself

I am the Professor of Operational Research in the School of Mathematical and Information Sciences (MIS) at Coventry University. My main research interests are in an area that many people call computational intelligence. This includes applications of neural networks to pattern recognition problems, and heuristic methods for combinatorial optimization, particularly genetic algorithms on which I have published many papers. I also edited and co-authored the book Modern Heuristic Techniques for Combinatorial Problems, published originally (1993) by Blackwell, and re-issued more recently (1995) by McGraw-Hill. [Ordering information from McGraw-Hill web page] A new book, Genetic Algorithms: Principles and Perspectives, co-authored with Jon Rowe, is due in 2002, published by Kluwer.

About research in MIS

Most of the research in the School of MIS relates to the activities of the Control Theory and Applications Centre (CTAC) to which I and many other staff are attached. I am part of the  Computational Intelligence and Optimization Group. There are some other groups in the school with which we have some involvement, such as the BIOCORE group for biomedical computing research; information on all groups can be found at http://www.mis.coventry.ac.uk/research/groups.html

Publications

A list of publications is shown below (Sorry, this list is rather out of date.)
Karl Benson's GECCO 2000 graduate student paper is available here   gecco.wksp.ps.ZIP

Some other useful links

The field of adaptive computation is an exciting research area, and there are many groups doing some very interesting work. Here are a few places where you can find out more:

Conferences

In 1999, I was involved with ICANNGA99 in Slovenia: the 4th International Conference on Artificial Neural Nets and Genetic Algorithms, and with te 5th, held in Prague in 2001. ICANNGA was a great success; the next one is to be held in Roanne, France, 22-25 April, 2003 - see  ICANNGA2003 for details.

Coventry University organizes an annual conference on Systems Engineering which rotates between Coventry, Wroclaw and Las Vegas. Next year it's in Coventry, again: September 2003.
