Profile
Saad Amin is a Principal Lecturer and Computer
System subject leader at the School of Mathematical
and Information Sciences, Coventry University,
UK. His main area of research involves the
design of image processing algorithms and multimedia
applications on parallel computers and distributed
computing, and their implementation on Cluster
of workstations (CoW) using a Parallel Virtual
Machine (PVM) and Message Passing Interface
(MPI). Previously, he was involved with a European
Community project at the Parallel Algorithms
Research Centre, Loughborough University. The
main objectives of the project were to establish
a European standard platform for the exploration
of biocomputational, nanotechnological and holographic
algorithms. One of his current researches interests
centres on the visual analysis of complex biomedical
images, where most of the image processing
algorithms needs massive amounts of banded matrix operations.
However, these algorithms contain explicit
parallelism, which can be efficiently exploited. The way
to achieve these objectives is by parallel
processing, involving the concurrent use of many simple
and reliable processing elements in the form
of VLSI designs.
He is also supervising the parallel computing research lab. Here a Cluster of
workstations (CoW), with software packages for parallel programming, such as
PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) and Message Passing Interface (MPI), are used
for biomedical image processing and artificial neural networks.
Dr Amin has published many journal and conference papers and reports on many
aspects of this research and has also acted as Session Chair and on program committees
for many international conferences. He recently served on the IEEE Committee
for Signal Processing Chapter for the UK and Ireland.
