Profile
Münevver
Köküer received her BSc
and MSc degree in Electrical-Electronics
Engineering in Turkey. In 1994,
she obtained her PhD degree in
the field of image processing in
Electronic Systems Engineering
from University of Essex, UK. Her
work was oriented toward model-based
coding for human imagery. From
1994 to 2001 she had been with
Anadolu University, Turkey, where
she worked as an Associate Professor.
In February 2000, she joined the Image and Vision Systems Group at the School
of Computer Science, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) as a research fellow.
She worked on analysis of ocean features on satellite imagery in collaboration
with DERA (Defence Evaluation and Research Agency). She was also involved in
web-based DB and overall software system design. In 2001, she was appointed
to work on an interdisciplinary project called AQUASTEW funded by European
Commission (5th Framework). Her research has been mostly concerned with data
analysis of chemical data. In 2002 and 2003, she developed and delivered lectures
on Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks, as part of the AI course (CSC306)
at QUB. She was actively involved in a Teaching Company Scheme (TCS) as supervising
a student through her work with Kelman Ltd. She has also been involved the
International Space University (ISU) since 1998 first as a student and then
as a member of staff. In 2001 and 2002, she was invited to participate as a
visiting lecturer in the area of image processing of satellite imagery. During
the period Oct’01-Jun’02, she was an Assistant Editor for the journal
Neurocomputing (Elsevier). She is also a Program Committee Member of International
Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks (2003-2004). Her current
research interests include image processing, data analysis and pattern recognition.
