Modern buildings are highly sophisticated 'machines' where traditional craft skills blend with modern technologies.  Advances in construction technologies, such as the use of new materials in ceramics and glass, efficient heating and air conditioning systems, computer-designed structures and the installation of specialist equipment for those with disabilities, ensures the need for professional input at all stages from concept to detailed design, construction and maintenance.

Architectural technologists practice the science of architecture and are specialists in building design and construction. Your work as an architectural technologist is varied: concerned primarily with the sound technical performance of buildings, you will undertake design presentations, feasibility studies, construction detailing, material selection, contract and statutory negotiations, the use of CAD, project management, site inspections and quality control.

Reasons to choose Architectural Design Technology BSc Honours degree (part time course)

The course is accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and the Chartered Institute of Building.

Future prospects

You may look for employment in architectural practices, or in design studios based in local government, the health service, property development, building contracting, housing associations, and in a wide range of commercial companies.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A-C and 220 tariff points from 2 or more 6-unit awards or equivalent qualifications.

If you have a HNC/HND and meet our entry requirements, you will be considered for direct entry to level 2.
