Access to HE - Engineering

OVERVIEW

The Access to Higher Education programmes are designed specifically for adults who may not have the conventional educational requirements, such as A level qualifications, but would like an opportunity to enter on to a higher education course. The aim of the Access to Engineering course is to enable you to acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence to start a degree programme and help you to fulfil your chosen career potential.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

Access to Engineering is a suitable choice if you’re looking to study a degree in engineering. The Access programme will develop your skills and knowledge in the appropriate fields, so you’re ready to start a full Engineering degree.

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

In order to achieve the Access to Higher Education Diploma, you must achieve 60 credits at level 3.

The grades available will be Pass, Merit and Distinction on the graded units.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Learning is assessed in a variety of methods to prepare you to study at university. These may include an extended essay, timed assessments under controlled conditions or report writing.

Entry Requirements

Formal qualifications for this course are not mandatory. Instead prospective students are required to attend an informal 1-2-1 chat along with completing 2 short assessments. These will be in the form of a literacy and numeracy test. 

For applicants whose first language is not English, we will also require an English language competence. This can be achieved by successfully completing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) with a minimum score of 6.0.

£3,928 - If you're aged 19+ funding is available through the Advanced Learners Loan

ENTRY CRITERIA

Formal qualifications are not mandatory, instead a Numeracy and Literacy assessment will be needed. An interview will also be required so that our tutors are satisfied that you can benefit from the course and be able to cope with the future requirements of studying in higher education.

All students wishing to gain entry onto the access course should have a level 2 English equivalent certificate at the time of starting the course or should be willing to get one within the access academic year you have joined.

DURATION AND DELIVERY

This course is delivered over the course of one year. The programme currently runs from September to May.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

CU Scarborough (CUS) has been established as a new campus in North Yorkshire. It will operate through one of Coventry University’s wholly-owned subsidiaries (Coventry University College Ltd.) and is being supported by the wider Coventry University infrastructure.

CUC Ltd. provide High Quality level 3 Access courses only. Students are responsible for making their own arrangements regarding any level 2 Maths and English qualifications they might need for their progression after this course.
