What User ID and password should I use to access the Wireless Service?

To gain access to the Wireless Service you will need to have registered with ITS. Once registered you will need to use the User ID and password provided.

My laptop computer connects to the Wireless Service but no webpages are displaying?

If you are using the lastest version on Internet Explorer (version 7) then you will need to take the following action in order to fix this problem.

  • Within Internet Explorer, click on Tools and select Internet Options.
  • A window will now pop up.
  • Now select the Advanced tab.
  • Scroll to the bottom and ensure the SSl 2.0 box is ticked.
  • Click on Apply then OK.
  • Now click on the Refresh button.
  • A security warning will now appear as a webpage.
  • Select the middle option of the displayed page (continue to this website)

You will now see displayed Coventry University's Wireless Service logon page. Input your IT Services user ID and the password you created when you registered for IT Services and click Logon User. You will now be able to browse the internet.

I have taken the above action but I still cannot visit any websites?

You may need to take further action in order to resolve this problem.

You will see a icon in your System Tray reporting a connection. Right click on this icon and perform the following.

  • Select Open Network Connections. A window will have appeared listing your Network Connections.
  • Right click your Wireless connection and select Properties
  • A new window will appear, on the General tab select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  • Then click on the Properties button.
  • Again, on the General tab, ensure that the Obtain an IP address automatically option is selected.
  • Click OK on both windows and refresh your web browser.

You should now be able to browse the internet.
