Systems Engineering
Welcome to the Department of Systems Engineering
Systems engineering is often defined as being an interdisciplinary subject that concentrates on the application of engineering techniques to produce products.
It often involves integrating together the knowledge from other disciplines.
Here at Coventry University, the department of Systems Engineering offers degree courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and carries out research up to Doctorate level.
The main mission of the department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a significant contribution to society as professional engineers on practical problems.
The Department works in the main areas of:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Communications and Computer Networking
- Control Theory and Applications
- Digital Forensics and System Security
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Microprocessor Systems and Applications
We have excellent facilities. These include dedicated laboratories for each of the main disciplines. Students work in laboratories and carry out project work to ensure that graduates have skills that will help make them highly employable.
We work closely with the Institute of Engineering Technology and the Royal Aeronautical Society to produce relevant, up to date and professionally accredited courses. As such we have an enviable reputation for producing graduates who gain employment and can quickly make a strong contribution in industry. Graduates in this subject area are in demand world wide working in both international corporations and small companies such as:
- Ericsson
- Delphi
- British Telecommunications
- BAE Systems
- Rolls Royce
Undergraduate students can further improve their attraction to prospective employers by taking a ‘sandwich’ placement at the end of their second year of study. Students can gain a year’s industrial experience. We have students working all over the UK and this often results in them being offered a job, even before taking the final year of the degree course.
Research
The research area of the department is focused on the application of control to systems. Staff supervise research students who work on practical industrial based projects.
