Julian Hellaby

Julian Hellaby (PhD, MMus, BMus, LRAM, ARAM) is active as solo pianist, accompanist and ensemble member. Recent doctoral research into musical interpretation has informed his performances of standard solo piano repertoire, some of which he is due to record for his sixth CD release in 2008. Three of his previous CD recordings (of 20th century British piano music) are shown below.

Other activities involve commissioning, premiering and touring works for both solo piano and two pianos. As member of the Peter Noke-Julian Hellaby piano duo Julian has performed throughout the UK and received Arts Council funding to commission new work. Current projects include experimentation with colour and improvisation in a novel combination of two pianos and bow chimes.

Julian's work at Coventry University includes lecturing on music history, performance and performance analysis as well as dissertation supervision. He organises the university's lunchtime concert series and also works as examiner, mentor, presenter and author for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
