Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management

In today's complex business environment it is widely accepted that an organisation's people are its most important resource. We recognise that effective human resource management has a significant contribution to make to the success of businesses.  We therefore aim to support businesses by providing a range of focused, comprehensive programmes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and by undertaking applied research activities. These degree programmes provide not only a foundation to enable students to prepare for a career in human resource management, equipping individuals with the necessary expertise to take on HR roles and develop solutions to strategic HRM issues. They are also highly relevant for those students wishing to pursue careers in general management.

The career profile of our staff reflects their broad experiences of working within the field of HRM in a number of public and private sector organisations. Staff within the Department have a wide range of research and consultancy experience. Our research expertise is based around three key themes: Diversity; Knowledge and Learning; and Evaluating the Impact of HR and Change Initiatives. Research within the Department is led by two Professors Denise Skinner, Professor of HRM and , Professor Maxine Robertson of Innovation, Knowledge and Organising; and further strengthened by links within the university with:
