How do I apply for University sports membership if it is included in the rental package?

You can apply for sports membership on arrival at the university by visiting Coventry University Sports Centre.

I am an international student who needs a visa, when can I apply for accommodation?

If you have been offered an unconditional or conditional place of study and you have made Coventry your first choice, you can apply on-line from 10.00am on Monday 20th April 2009.

Student Accommodation will not process your application until your academic conditions have been met and you have successfully obtained a relevant VISA study in the UK, subject to verification by the International Office and Student Accommodation.

Can I live near my friend?

When you apply please state the details of the request and include names and date of birth of people/persons involved in the notes section on the application form and we will try to assist in the request.

Is University sports membership available to all student living in Student Accommodation?

All Student Accommodation rental packages include sports membership, except students living in Raglan House, Sherbourne House where this is an extra charge.  Non-students living in double or twin study bedrooms with Coventry University students, are not eligible for sports membership, but there is no discount in the rental package.  A reduced membership fee is available, details can be provided by the University Sports and Recreation Centre.

When do I receive information about internet connection?

On arrival you will receive all the information you require to connect to the internet.  Please note; not all our properties have internet included in the rent. Trinity Point Internet is not included and there is an additional charge £160 for 44 weeks (can pay more to update package) which you can organise on arrival.

Cablecom offer internet provision in the majority of Student Accommodation properties (excluding Trinity Point, 60 Radford Road, Raglan House and Sherbourne House).  The Standard Provision included within the rental package includes the following:

  • Internet connection up to 40 x faster than dial-up modem service (2048kbps)
  • Text only chat and Messaging (MSN and Yahoo Messenger)
  • Cablecom Internet TV and low cost Cablecom Internet Telephony available

In selected student accommodation Cablecom provide Enhanced Internet Provision (this excludes some university houses).  There will be an additional cost for this service, but if you do take out the Enhance Provision you will benefit from the following:

  • Internet connection up to 80 x faster than dial-up modem service (4096kbps)
  • All features of Chat and Messaging
  • Full media screening for both video and audio
  • Cablecom Internet TV with up to 40 Freeview Channels - additional cost of £20.00 per year
  • Telephone in conjunction with Skype providing the best quality connection possible allowing for free calls between other Skype users or an average charge of 1p per minute to landlines
  • Max connection speed up to 4mb - additional cost of £60.00 per year.
  • Support for Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3

How do I apply for car parking?

Car parking is limited.  Student Accommodation are only able to offer car parking at a selection of University Houses and Singer Hall, on a first come first served basis.  Where car parking is available spaces can only be booked by students residing in those properties.  The costs for 2009-2010 is £200 for the contract period.  Students living in Raglan House can book car parking spaces at Singer Hall on arrival depending on availability.

There is limited car parking available at Trinity Point (for 2009-2010 the cost is £13.00 per week and £572.00 for 44 week contract payable prior to arrival) and Sherbourne House (for 2009-2010 the cost is approx £440.00 per year) but you will need to contact these properties direct for details on how to book a space.

 

How do I find out more about my accommodation?

On arrival you will be able to visit the student portal and find information about your accommodation.  If you have applied and accepted your offer of accommodation on-line details will already have been made available to you. You will be asked on arrival to complete an inventory which needs to be completed within 2 working days of arrival.  It is important that you complete this in full, as damage that may occur in your room during the length of your contract will be invoiced.

What happens if I do not like my accommodation?

Coming away to university and living away from home for the first time can be a stressful and upsetting time for some.  All our student accommodation is supported by a University Housing or Hall Officer who can assist you in issues you may have with your property.  To make an appointment please visit the accommodation hot desks in the Student Centre.

Where do I go if I need advice or assistance about my accommodation?

Student Accommodation are located in The Student Centre where you will find a dedicated team able to answer your questions.  Also visit the accommodation page on the Student Portal for news and events.

What do I bring with me?

None of our accommodation provides bedding in the room and we advise you to purchase this prior to arrival or as soon as you arrive.  The majority of our accommodation offers single beds so please consider this when purchasing bedding.  If you are in self catering property then you will also need cooking utensils, crockery and cooking equipment.

What facilities are there available in my accommodation?

What type of specialist accommodation do you offer?

We have a number of disabled adapted rooms offering additional space and equipment.  The majority of these rooms are available in Singer and Priory Hall.

Can I arrive before the start of my course?

We are unable to offer you an early arrival.  We therefore advise that you book a bed and breakfast or a hotel http://www.bedandbreakfasts.co.uk/propertysearch.asp?location=Coventry+University in the local area until the start date of your contract.

I am a Foundation Art and Design Student what accommodation choices can I choose?

Due to the course starting two weeks prior to the start of the normal academic term we can offer you accommodation in Singer Hall and Priory Hall and start the contract from the 12th September 2009.  All other accommodation is available for you to book, but you would need to take the option of two weeks in Priory Hall and then move to your chosen property on the 26th September 2009.  The normal contract length associated with the property will then apply.

I am a Socrates/Erasmus Student what accommodation is available?

If you are studying at Coventry University for the full year then you can opt to stay in any of our accommodation.  If you are only coming for a short course, then we can offer you accommodation in Priory Hall for the duration of your time of study.

I am not able to access the 'Student Accommodation On-line' system?

I will not be able to pay my Advance Licence Fee by Debit/Credit card?

If you do not have access to either a Debit or Credit Card then you will need to contact Student Accommodation for assistance.

Do I need insurance?

All University owned and managed accommodation comes with a mandatory personal possession insurance policy.  Full details, including amounts, limitations and exclusions can be found on the Endsleigh Insurance website http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/ additional cover can also be arranged by contacting Endsleigh Insurance direct. 

The University does not accept responsibility for loss or theft of or damage to residents’ property unless it is caused by the University’s (or its employees’ or agents’) negligence or breach of contract.

The University has a basic contents insurance policy to cover your possessions whilst you are living in halls.  It is very important that you check the limitations and exclusions of the policy to ensure that sufficient cover is in place for your individual requirements.

You are strongly advised not to keep large sums of cash in your room.

WHAT’S COVERED?

The University has arranged possessions insurance from Endsleigh Insurance Services Ltd . The cover provides protection from theft whilst your possessions are in your room.   The University cannot guarantee that all of your possessions will be insured therefore we strongly recommend you log on to http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/ and find out if  you need to extend the benefits provided to include cover for valuable items such as laptops, mp3 players, cameras, musical instruments, bikes and mobile phones when you take them outside of your room.

HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM

In the event of an insurance claim, residents should report the incident to the police (in the event of theft, accidental loss or malicious damage) and obtain a crime reference number.

To obtain a claim form, either, download a claim form from http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/ or, telephone Endsleigh’s claims team on 0870 241 6104.

Before forwarding the claim form to the insurers, please obtain a validation stamp from Student Accommodation at Student Centre. The completed and stamped claim form, plus any supporting evidence of loss and/or (crime number from the police), should then be forwarded to the insurers at the address listed on the claim form.

What happens if I go into Adjustment?

Once your place has been confirmed by the University following receipt of your exam results, you will have 7 days to let us know that you wish to accept the accommodation we have offered you.  This deadline will still apply if you choose to go into Adjustment and look for a place at another university.  If you decide to accept a place somewhere else through Adjustment we will be unable to refund any deposit you have paid for your accommodation.

I am a Nursing/Occupational Therapy Student, what accommodation choices are available to me?
