OVERVIEW

This course is designed for International and non-UK students from the European Union.

This is a high quality top-up and pre-Masters course consisting of 120 credits: 40 mechanical, 40 automotive and 40 aerospace. All modules are mandatory and current third year modules. Students are able to progress onto either Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace MSc courses. Employability for engineering graduates is currently very good as there is a shortage.

You will have the chance to use our industry standard software for computer-aided engineering and our excellent laboratories.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This course is designed to build upon students existing engineering skills and has been specifically designed to provide students with access to a range of specialisms including:

  • mechanical,
  • automotive,
  • electrical aerospace
  • aerospace.

This course consists of six mandatory topics. A full list of topics is shown below:

  • Individual Project;
  • Stress and Dynamics Analysis;
  • Automotive Engines and Vehicle Aerodynamics;
  • Advanced Materials and Reliability;
  • Aerospace Applications;
  • Aerospace Technology II.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course is based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars and tutorials.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your work will be assessed via coursework and examinations. The relative importance of these two components will vary between topics. There will be an appropriate split between coursework and examinations with some topics possibly assessed by coursework only.

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for students with an engineering background who have completed at least two years (four academic semesters) of relevant study at an appropriate academic level or a HND (Merit/Distinction).

English as a Foreign Language: IELTS 6.5.

How will this course enhance my career prospects?

On successful completion of this programme, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Engineering in the field and specialism that you have partly chosen through your optional topics. This will provide you with a base of knowledge that you can use in further study or in employment.

Included in the fees for students paying the new higher level fees:

Full time students will receive:

  • Specified Core or Essential Text books for this one year top up stage of the course
  • 1,000 A4 sides of black and white laser prints or equivalent printing credits per year
  • Any mandatory UK residential field trips
  • Any mandatory UK site visits and trips.

Please note that Stage 1 normally equates to the first year of an undergraduate degree, Stage 2 to the second year of an undergraduate degree, and Stage 3 to the third year of an undergraduate degree.  Progression from one stage to another is subject to the decision of the relevant Assessment Board, and stages make take more than one year if modules have to be repeated.  In addition, students undertaking a placement or year abroad will have this recorded as an additional stage 2 or 3, depending on the course.
