Understanding Mediation Level 2 Award

OVERVIEW

The OCNLR Level 2 Award in Understanding Mediation (QCF) qualification provides an understanding of the mediation process and the key skills involved in the role of a mediator and they have been developed as a short introduction to the subject.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

The OCNLR Level 2 Award in Understanding Mediation (QCF) has been developed in consultation with experienced practitioners and employers to offer introductory training to learners who have no previous experience of work in the field of mediation and would wish to work towards employment as a mediator.

The qualification provides an understanding of the mediation process and the key skills involved in the role of a mediator and they have been developed as a short introduction to the subject.

The course would be useful for a wide range of learners such as volunteers and students on related courses or to those already in employment.

The achievement of the qualification will also facilitate progression into higher level theory and practice qualifications.

The qualification is accredited by the qualifications regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and are part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The purpose of the qualification is to provide the learner with a basic understanding of the role of a mediator, the skills they require and the purpose of mediation in the facilitation of conflict resolution.

The OCNLR Level 2 Award in Understanding Mediation (QCF) comprises two mandatory units. In order to gain the Award the learner must achieve six credits at Level 2 by successfully completing both units.

Key Mediation Skills

  • Using listening skills in the mediation process.
  • Using communication techniques to assist the parties in face to face meetings.
  • Being able to work with a co-mediator.
  • Understanding how to manage own prejudice as a mediator.
  • Being able to reflect on own mediator practice and areas for further development of key mediation skills.


Understanding Mediation

  • Understanding mediation and its role in conflict resolution.
  • Understanding the mediation process in practice.
  • Understanding the role of a mediator.
  • Understanding own suitability to undertake the role of a mediator.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed through activities that are internally set by tutor assessors; The activities must be designed to enable you to meet the assessment criteria of the unit; Your portfolios of assessed evidence must be internally verified at the Centre; The portfolios of assessed evidence will be externally verified by an OCN London Quality Reviewer.

There is no additional external assessment for this qualification.

60 guided learning hours

Saturday 9.00-17.00 for 6 weeks

Entry Requirements

The minimum age for access to the qualification is 16 years.

How will this course enhance my career prospects?

The qualification provides a sound basis for you to move onto the higher level qualification in mediation theory and practice. For those who choose to progress into the workplace, the qualification is likely to improve your prospects of employability. Where the qualification is taken as in service training it could enhance progression opportunities within the place of work.
