Welcome to the Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute at Coventry University (CICU) was established in 2016 as a collaboration between Coventry University and Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics - a renowned Chinese institution ranked 7th among universities specialising in finance and economics in China.

As the only Confucius Institute in the West Midlands, we are a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation dedicated to our mission. We take pride in bringing a taste of China to Coventry through a comprehensive range of language and culture courses, as well as our exciting events and activities.

Our institute actively supports Coventry University's endeavours across the city, region, and global connections. We serve as a vital platform for local enterprises seeking to enter the Chinese market and facilitate Chinese investments in the region. We also actively engage with the local community and educational institutions to promote the study of Chinese language and culture.

• Our mission

  Our overarching goal is to foster understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture. To achieve this, we offer a wide variety of Mandarin classes, catering to learners of all levels, ranging from beginners to advanced students. In addition to language courses, we provide specialised business language programs and comprehensive HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) preparation courses.

  Our team of highly qualified Chinese teachers are carefully selected by Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, and bring their expertise, experience, and passion for teaching Mandarin and sharing their culture to Coventry University. They have travelled all the way from China to impart their knowledge and nurture their students' linguistic and cultural growth.

  As a dedicated and creative team, we actively strive to bridge the gap between Chinese and Western cultures through various engaging activities. From table tennis competitions to Tai Chi classes and Chinese calligraphy workshops, we endeavour to foster cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

  In line with our mission, we have set specific goals, including long-term engagement with the local community, particularly with educational institutions such as primary and secondary schools. We aim to establish lasting partnerships and educational programs that promote Chinese language learning and cultural appreciation among students of all ages.

  We're also committed to establishing a robust business platform to assist local enterprises in successfully entering the Chinese market and facilitate Chinese investments in the region. By providing comprehensive support, including market research, business matchmaking and cultural consulting services, we aim to foster economic ties and opportunities between Coventry and China.
