Establishing your copyright is easy – once you create a script, a film or a software, it’s yours, according to UK law. But asserting your rights may not be as straightforward, and are you sure that the film is 100% yours, or did you use someone else’s music, camerawork and performances?
This course explores the legal environment you work in, and the industry procedures in place to ensure that you can control your product through a ‘chain of title’, because only full ownership puts you in the position to then sell it on, or license it, the only ways to earn back your initial investment of time and cash, and eventually turn a profit. On the other hand, you may be a freelancer signing a contract and wonder what you have given away – for what gain, current or potentially in the future?
This course is aimed at emerging film professionals, media freelancers and those starting contracts on their own productions.
